When I worked in public safety I never understood why women would dial 9-1-1 and ask for help because their husband, boyfriend, and/or baby daddy was beating them and then beat the officers to the jail to post bail for their man. Often they were there before the booking process had begun. And then I became an instant single parent and I got it. "He may beat me on Friday night but Monday there will be food on the table to feed my kids." Choices of desperation. When I worked at a Christian university I never understood why parents would pay outrageous sums of money in tuition to send their adult children to a Christian school that they wanted no part of attending. They had no intention of taking their education seriously, especially their spiritual education. Then my kids became young adults and made choices not to follow or believe in God and I got it. I have posted twice on the Liberty University / Ergun Caner controversy. If you are interested enough to be here now and are unfamiliar with my previous posts, you can find them here and here . Yesterday, Liberty University released a statement regarding the investigation into the veracity of some of Dr. Caner's claims regarding his testimony and accomplishments. You can read that here and here . There are several places you can read about this. If you are ignorant of the whole thing, consider it a blessing and decide if you really want to know. First of all, for all the Christians who have insisted that Dr. James White had speculated about or that this scandal was in any way about whether or not Dr. Caner was ever really a Muslim, I am at a loss for words. Embellishment. It is in the top three things that set mankind on its backside on the outside of the Garden. My old cowboy friend always told me that before a horse does something, it gets ready to do something. Things line up and then the horse bucks or kicks. Before Adam and Eve fell, things lined up. It took one question put together by the best wordsmith the world has ever known. It probably happened something like this: "Did God really say.... ?" Adam, who was given instructions directly, let the first bit line up when he relaxed his place of leadership and let Eve answer the question or rather let her answer it incorrectly. Eve embellished the answer. She told the serpent not only can't they eat from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, they can't even touch it! That's the next bit that lined up. I think it's important because it is a twisting of what is true and it sounds so dramatic. It sounds as if Eve is an authority on the subject....

There are many posts and many opinions on the net regarding Dr. Ergun Caner and the veracity of his testimony and curriculum vitae . I have written an open letter to Dr. Caner here on my blog. I am of little consequence and my blog is not one that is well read. That seldom stops me from speaking my mind here in my blog and it is not going to stop me today. Having worked in Student Development in a Christian University, I am passionate about education. In my office I had 1 Timothy 1:5 posted on my wall to remind me of my purpose. "But the goal of our instruction is love from a pure heart and a good conscience and a sincere faith." The point of being educated is to be able to discern right from wrong; truth from error. For believers a good conscience is not only one that is clean but one that does its job; keeping us from sin and when we do sin-leading us to repentance. The truth about things is always out there to be found. My friend, Turretinfan , posted an excellent series written by Tom Chantry about the importance of truth in reporting history. I hope you'll read his work whether or not you are familiar with the Ergun Caner debacle. It is a valuable lesson for us all. I recommend you put both these blogs on your reading radar.
