40 Day 40 Minute Challenge Day 10- Evil and the Internet

Yesterday there was a spot on the news about death threats being made to Rebecca Black , the young woman with the viral music video, Friday . I was blissfully unaware of 13 year old Rebecca until recently. Her music video, mostly an engineered compilation of an annoying but maddeningly catchy song, has more detractors than admirers. I don't have a problem with folks in either camp, except of course the ones that have issued death threats and said hateful things to her because they don't like her music. I have huge issues with that sort of behavior and even bigger issues with the journalists who are trying to make behavior like this some sort of news worthy event. Why? Because most of the anonymous people who would say horrible things to a teenager like the horrified reactions they are getting. Especially when they are not being called out as the feckless cowards they really are. Back in my day if you didn't like a song, you turned off the radio. If I don't lik...

Vanity and Parenting

Parents used to raise their children with the idea of getting them to adulthood having the tools they would need to survive. Good health, good education, (one that actually teaches you to think critically so you can determine right from wrong), and their best chance for a vocation that would see them through their lives. One day that began to change. I don't know where it started and why so many parents have succumbed but suddenly befriending your child and making them happy has become the aim of many parents. Little John and little Jane need great self-esteem and happiness more than the ability to think or have manners. They need to have their wants satisfied more than they need the discipline of waiting to grow up for their rights of passage. Today I was watching Good Morning America and they had a segment of the show that absolutely astounded me. Should Little Girls Wear High Heels? There was a debate and folks on both sides of the issue sounded off. One mom let her 5 ye...

The LONG Awaited Post

Not having days off for two weeks coupled with having terrible allergies has made it difficult for me to catch up on things I have to do as well as those things I just want to do. Last night, miserable with allergies, I took a 24 hour Zyrtech. It worked well, I think. I am not sure that sleeping 12 of the 24 hours makes it worth taking the medication but while I slept, I wasn't bothered my allergy symptoms. I did, however, miss church because I couldn't justify driving with a medication fogged brain. I won't be taking the 24 hour variety again. Did I say drugs? (How's that for segueing?) Perhaps because I am wondering... is our entire culture medicated out of their minds or is it just those who profess to be Christians? I am asking because it doesn't appear that anyone is paying attention to what is going on here. I am reminded of that bumper sticker that says "If you're not outraged, you're not paying attention." One of the reasons I put the...
