Un-Ringing Bells and I Hate the Media

I could get up every day and share examples with you on why I deplore the media. The media was all over the Trayvon Martin shooting and the public jumped to conclusions. Some reporters got their 15 minutes of fame and proved the old adage, "There's a sucker born every minute."  Which, by the way, P.T. Barnum may never have said....there's evidence the media got it wrong.   Ugh! media. The media prints it, the television airs it and we, the people,  respond like marionettes having our strings pulled. Only now, now that the race card has been played and folks last nerves been stepped on, are we beginning to hear the facts.  The voice screaming for help? Likely Mr. Zimmerman's. Photographs of a bruised and swollen face?  Mr. Zimmerman's.  Cut to the back of the head? Mr. Zimmerman's. Technology, sensationalism and the lack of critical thinking skills are a dangerous combination. Young Trayvon's family are due the greatest empathy we can give them.  But ...

Scathed : Please Send Fudge.

It's been a tough year for me. I have been scathed. My Pop was injured shortly after his birthday in January and died in November. My sister was diagnosed with bilateral breast cancer two days before she flew out to bring Pop to the mainland in the hopes of finding him resources that would aid his recovery. I have been forced to jump through hoops to satisfy folks regarding my disability. I could go on and on but trust me, I have been scathed. Repeatedly. As I sit at my computer under the influence of the medications that make living with degenerative disc disease, herniated discs and cervical spinal stenosis bearable, I have been reflecting on a few things- mostly concerning stuff in the media. Here are some things I have jotted down in no particular order. They were all fodder for stuff I might write. Remember...rambling is not organized, rambling is ... well... rambling. I am glad the Chilean miners were rescued. I live in a coal mining state and have come to appreciate t...

There Are No Unalienable Rights in Hell

I am so done with people feigning offense, trying to step on guilt glands or reacting with knee jerk responses to perceived political incorrectness I could scream. I know that conflicting opinions are difficult. When people champion causes that I think are inane, I try to lay out a reason for my opinion, respectfully. I try to listen to their arguments. Really listen, not just look for flaws. I am not always successful. Sometimes the fact that I think the person holding a different worldview is a booger-picking moron is obvious and that is to my shame. Occasionally unedifying and unsanctified thoughts actually give way to spoken words that slide off my tongue like they are rocket launched stupid-seeking missiles. I am not proud of myself when that happens. It's sinful. Today I read that Juan Williams, a commentator, was fired by NPR . His offense? Admitting that he fears being on a plane with people who identify themselves first and foremost as Muslims. Is it chilly in hel...
